     Ammonite Portland Stone 2007

I undertake public and private commissions for sculpture, garden ornament and lettering; I also carve house signs, commemorative plaques and memorials. I see my work in the tradition of artist makers carving original pieces either to commission or for exhibition. I also teach stone carving and letter cutting courses on a private basis, in schools, local adult education colleges, prisons and for corporate events. Courses can vary in length from two hours to two weeks depending on the project

The ideas behind my sculptural work are often influenced by organic forms, material and the environment. I am interested in the geometric structures, patterns, symmetry and proportion found both in nature and the unfolding of numbers in space. Other pieces have an historical element to them, either on a personal level or as part of the commissioning process with the client. I work predominantly in natural materials such as stone and wood because they are durable, lovely to carve and have their own innate quality.
