ABOUT US                        Our Chronology

Established in 1993, by environmental artist, sculptor and critic Francis Carr, the Network created a vital new platform for constructive dialogue between previously disparate disciplines, to encourage new ideas and projects involving the urban and rural environments.
The aims of the originally named Landscape & Art Group were to:

Improve our landscape and surroundings through art, design and creative activity

Establish local, national and international networks

Include all interested people and organisations and promote their interests

Break down professional and educational barriers

Provide a forum to air ideas and provoke debate

Ten years on, the Network has evolved into the best resource
for everyone interested in the arts and the environment

The Network has maintained relationships with a wide range of organisations and venues including The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Forest of Dean Artists, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, The Design Museum, Art & Architecture, Public Monuments and Sculpture Association, Historic Gardens Society, Portland Sculpture and Quarry Trust, The Landscape Institute, Writtle College, The Building Centre Trust and AININ.

Over the past twelve years we have influenced every aspect of art in the environment, including interdisciplinary working practices, creative opportunities, funding streams, academic policy, community involvement and international relationships.

The Network Advisors are:

William Arthurs, Charity advisor

Alan Baxter, Alan Baxter Associates, London. An engineering and urban design practice with wide experience of new and existing buildings and complex urban issues. Particularly concerned with the thoughtful integration of buildings, infrastructure and movement.

Edward Goldsmith, Co-founder of the International Forum on Globalization, and founder and publisher of the 30-year-old The Ecologist, Europe's leading environmental journal.

Professor David Goode, Head of Environment, Greater London Authority.

The Landscape and Arts Network was launched in 1993 by artist Francis Carr with the aim of bringing together landscape architects, engineers, architects, artists, educationalists and ecologists:  in effect, all those individuals, professional or otherwise, who feel passionate about improving and sustaining the quality of our urban and natural environment. Through an ongoing programme of seminars, visits, conferences and meetings it helps to broaden the context in which we understand art and landscape and continues to inspire practitioners of all kinds and break professional boundaries.

As a network one of its founding aims is to encourage collaboration and cross-fertilisation, both in theory and practice. Creativity is at the heart of its agenda, offering unique opportunities for members to explore and relate to a variety of challenges.
